November (sometimes dubbed as Moonvember in web3) is one of the busiest months in a year, probably more jam-packed with events and activities than September, when people return from vacations and the financial year usually starts. Swarm is not a stranger to this busy Moonvember movement. Let’s see what this buzzing month has brought us!
First and foremost, Swarm has the undying cypherpunk spirit; and it does not go unnoticed. HackerNoon gave László Fazekas the third spot in its Ethereum Writing Contest for the article about Swarm storage scaling. Read the article to know about Swarm’s decentralised storage mechanism.
The top highlight of the start of the month was the Ethereum developer conference Devcon 7 Southeast Asia that took place in Bangkok on 12-15 Nov. It was preceded by Thailand Blockchain Week and accompanied by dozens of side events before, during, and after the main events. For starters, Swarm joined CryptoMondays Bangkok to explore the future of user-owned data and censorship-resistant AI.
Swarm also attended the Ethereum Cypherpunk Congress to talk about going serverless and stateless. With Swarm, users can upload the data and disappear, while the network holds the data. The “upload and disappear” strategy suits those who believe in the permissionless Internet. Also, A Cypherpunk’s Manifesto has been uploaded to Swarm.
Meanwhile, Solar Punk, a project within the Swarm ecosystem, got a Swarm fellowship for building decentralised libraries for the web3 world, empowering devs and businesses to create unstoppable, censorship-resistant apps. Get to know the libraries on the Solar Punk website.
Swarm joined the Devconflict side event organised by its partner chain Gnosis that considers providing L2 functionality.
Next, there were the WEB3 Social Day and the pinnacle of the trip to Thailand — a special event called Rooftop.buzz. At the event, the decentralised, anonymous communication platform Devcon.buzz was presented. It is a first-of-its-kind, revolutionary, anonymous & decentralised communications platform for Devcon attendees, enthusiasts, and the broader web3 community. On the site, fellow developers and blockchain experts discussed the recent developments in decentralised technologies with Swarm and Solar Punk teams.
During the main conference at Devcon 7, Swarm Partnership Manager Costanza Gallo teamed up with dopest hacktivists in the Ethereum space to open the Hacktivism Hub. They organised lectures, workshops, and educational material to dive deep into the hacking culture and how to use technology to make the world a better place. Guest speakers included Lefteris Karapetsas, Julio Linares, Viktor Trón, Manu Alzuru, Liz Hophardt, Mykola Siusko, Piergiorgio Catti De Gasperi, and jensei.eth.
The Swarm booth at Devcon has been a cypherpunk gathering place. Also, Swarm fans came to get THe Book of Swarm signed by Viktor Trón.
Costanza Gallo also joined Mask Network’s DePIN and The Web3 Economy panel to talk about Swarm and the intersection between AI and crypto.
The major post-Devcon milestone is the addition of 3 new DApps to the Swarm Desktop app:
- Datafund App: a Web3 marketplace for AI models and datasets, Datafund empowers users to unlock the value of their data while respecting privacy and ethics.
- Decentralised Wiki: Information owned by the community, free from centralised control, and powered by Swarm’s censorship-resistant network.
- Decentralised OpenStreetMap (OSM): the free wiki world map available as a decentralised version on Swarm.
The Swarm Desktop app provides an intuitive way to access the Swarm network. It lets users run a light Swarm node directly on their computers, enabling seamless interaction with the network — no centralised gateways required.
The top highlight of the last week of November will be the upcoming Community Call on Thursday, 28 November. Besides the Bee v2.3.0 client that is set to go live in early December, the Swarm team will discuss protocol optimisations and Multichain MVP progress and show how the new Swarm Desktop apps bring decentralisation closer to us.
As you can see, November started strong and ends even stronger at Swarm. Stay tuned for more buzzing updates on adoption of censorship-resistant data storage and hosting.
