LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman on Wednesday criticized Tesla CEO Elon Musk for his stance on the artificial intelligence technology. His criticism followed an open letter by AI experts and many executives including Musk last week about the risks to society from the technology. In the letter, the experts called for imposing a six month pause in developing systems powerful than OpenAI’s GPT-4. Essentially, they asked developers to temporarily stop the process of training powerful AI models.
Musk had in the recent times been critical of ChatGPT and OpenAI’s style of operation. He wondered how the company could transition into a “closed source, maximum-profit company” from being a non-profit entity. The billionaire also said OpenAI was effectively controlled by Microsoft, referring to the tech giant’s investment in the ChatGPT maker.
